How to file a police report online

Today, there are 3 ways to submit a statement to the police about illegal actions - to appear at the police station in person, send the document by mail and send an appeal via the Internet. The opportunity to use the Internet for these purposes appeared back in April 2010, when the State Services portal began to function, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs began to accept applications from citizens through its official website.

At the moment, the function of transferring applications to the police through the website of the State Service is temporarily unavailable, so in the article we will consider in detail the option of submitting them through the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Applying online is a great option for those who cannot go to the nearest police station due to ill health, those who fear for their safety and anyone who lacks a trusted person who can do it at the police station for them.

How to apply through the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs?

You can write an application on the website https://mvd.rf/ by clicking on the block "For citizens" (the top of the main page) and selecting the item "Acceptance of applications from citizens and organizations".

We get to the page for selecting departments to which our message relates. You can select one or more departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the entire Ministry of Internal Affairs. We will mark the item "Ministry of the Interior", after which it remains to click on the "Continue" button at the end of the page.

An information window appears on the procedure for submitting applications. We carefully read, check the box "I have read the information" and click the "Submit an appeal" button.

An electronic form will open to be filled out. There are a number of fields that are mandatory in order to apply, others can be ignored (but not desirable).

Several fields of the application form must be filled in without fail:

  1. Applicant. Individuals indicate their surname, patronymic and first name. Organizations fill in the same fields (name of the originator of the appeal), and, if desired, a number of additional ones (name of organization, outgoing application number, date of registration of the document in the organization, etc.);
  2. Reply address. For a return reply, you can choose either a regular postal address or an email address. Email will be answered much faster. Additionally, the applicant's phone number, his status (citizen of the Russian Federation, foreign citizen, police officer, military man, etc.) and the place of the event (subject of the Russian Federation) are indicated;
  3. The text of the appeal and captcha (entering text from the image to protect the system from automatically sending messages). The maximum length of the application text is 2000 characters. However, it is possible to attach any file up to 30 megabytes, including an MS Word file with the full text of the document.

It is not necessary to indicate the full name and position of the person to whom the message will be sent (if you do not have such information). If an appeal has already been sent on a similar issue, this can be indicated in the block “Have you already applied on this issue?” (the name of the department of internal affairs and the date of submission of the last application is indicated).

That's all, all that remains is to click the "Send request" button and wait for a response. The application is registered within 3 days after receipt, and considered within 30 days (if necessary, the consideration period is increased to 60 days). It should be noted that the acceptance of applications for crimes that pose a threat to personal or public security (criminal cases) is carried out around the clock. They are instantly registered in the duty units of the local departments of internal affairs.

If the appeal is not included in the field of activity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it will be forwarded within 7 days to the appropriate government agency or authorized official.

Pros and cons of using the internet

The main advantage of using the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for filing applications is it's high speed. There is no need to look for the nearest police station, write a statement by hand in it, wait in line. The message can be sent quickly and conveniently without leaving home. You only need access to the Internet, you don’t even need to register on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Another plus - anonymity. Although we are not talking about complete anonymity, filing a complaint via the Internet is much safer for the applicant than going to the police.

A problem can arise only if the applicant is poorly versed in Internet technologies and is not experienced in working with electronic resources of various departments and organizations. Although now there are fewer and fewer such people, but they exist. And not everyone knows how to work in the Word program in order to write an appeal correctly and accurately with it (sometimes it takes 2-3 pages).

Separate minus - lack of necessary guarantees that the appeal sent online will be accepted and processed. At the police station, when submitting an application, a coupon is issued, which indicates the date of admission and other information about the accepted document. When applying via the Internet, there are no such measures, which can scare away and force you to write an application in a proven way, at the nearest police department. However, the service notifies that absolutely all messages are processed and registered.
