Instructions for use

According to the instructions, Pratel for cats is prescribed for the treatment of helminthic invasions caused by various types of round and tapeworms, as well as their prevention. The dosage of the drug is calculated taking into account the weight of the animal:

  • kittens weighing up to 2 kg need a quarter of one tablet;
  • for pets weighing from 2 to 5 kg, half a tablet will be required;
  • for cats weighing between 5 and 10 kg, 1 tablet is needed;
  • animals weighing more than 10 kg should be given 2 tablets.

In the treatment of helminthiasis, the medicine is given one-time. After 7-10 days, it is recommended to retake tests to confirm the absence of nematodes or cestodes. In the case of a positive result, the medication is repeated, although usually once is enough.

Note! It is impossible to neglect preventive deworming if children live in the house. The fact is that some types of worms, for example, roundworms, can be transmitted from cats to people. Children are more at risk of infection, as they often come into contact with pets and do not always comply with sanitary standards (wash their hands on time).

Tablets can be given in various ways:

  • Forced. It is necessary to open the mouth of the pet and put the drug on the root of the tongue. Close the mouth and hold it up until the animal swallows the tablet.
  • With food. The tablet can be hidden in a small piece of meat, canned food or other food that the animal likes. It is allowed to grind the tablet to make it easier to disguise it.

Pratel is a safe anthelmintic, but it has a number of contraindications. It cannot be given:

  • with exhaustion;
  • severely ill animals, especially with viral infections;
  • with intolerance to the components, including a history;
  • kittens up to 6 months of age.

It is worth refusing to use the medication for chronic and acute kidney diseases, as well as violations of the liver. These organs are responsible for the removal of active components from the body of the animal. If there are serious problems, they may not be able to cope with their task, which will lead to intoxication of the pet.

During pregnancy, Pratel can be given to a cat only in the last third of the gestation period and only after consultation with a veterinarian. Lactating females are allowed to take medication 2-3 weeks after birth.

Note! Pratel cannot be combined with piperazine.

In case of intolerance to praziquantel and other components of the drug, allergic reactions may occur. They can manifest themselves in different ways: rashes, redness, disorders of the digestive system, etc. If unpleasant symptoms are found, the use of Pratel is stopped, and any anti-allergic medicine is given to the cat or cat.

Usually, the antihelminthic does not cause side effects and is well tolerated by kittens and adult animals. In case of an overdose, the following symptoms may occur:

  • lethargy;
  • loss of appetite;
  • nausea or vomiting;
  • diarrhea.

Cancellation of the drug and symptomatic treatment help the animal recover quickly in this case, but you should not self-medicate.

Precautionary measures

When using Pratel, you must follow the general rules for working with veterinary drugs. After feeding the tablets to an animal, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water. If you have an allergy, be sure to consult a doctor, taking the medicine package with you.

Helminths have a negative effect on the well-being of the animal, being located mainly in the liver, intestinal tract and other organs. About 80% of pets have worms. Animals lose their appetite and become indifferent. Since worms are also dangerous for the human population, it is recommended by all doctors to give pets suspensions or tablets against helminth formation on a quarterly basis.
