Do-it-yourself laundry basket made of rope. How to make a beautiful DIY laundry basket

A wicker laundry basket for the bathroom is a very modern, original and practical piece of furniture.

Linen boxes and baskets differ not only in material, colors or dimensions, but also in functionality, style and design.

Peculiarities

Of course, plastic products are more affordable, but it is wicker baskets in terms of aesthetics and attractiveness that are the undeniable leaders in popularity. With the help of natural wicker, it is easy to realize very original variants of linen containers that fit perfectly into almost any interior design style.

The main advantages of a wicker basket or box are:

  • ecological purity of the material;
  • ensuring full air circulation;
  • low weight of the product;
  • mobility;
  • ease of use;
  • stability and capacity;
  • external attractiveness;
  • undemanding care;
  • durability.

A properly selected wicker laundry basket is quite roomy, but it is advisable to give preference to models equipped with a lid and practical handles.

A clear advantage will be the presence of a delimitation of the internal space of the basket into several departments, allowing you to conveniently sort colored and white linen.

In conditions of compliance with the rules of operation and care, a wicker product can last for many years without losing its original presentability and attractive appearance.

Varieties

Basket weaving is carried out not only from natural, but also from artificial materials, which are distinguished by high quality characteristics. Currently, several types of wicker laundry baskets are popular.

According to the form, finished products for storing linen can be:

  • square;
  • rectangular;
  • round;
  • oval;
  • corner;
  • non-standard options.

According to the design features, a wicker laundry basket can be stationary or folding, frameless or with a frame, made of wood or metal.

Models of wicker baskets of the closed type are equipped with a hinged or independent lid, and the laundry container itself can be designed for installation on the floor or a special rack.

materials

According to the type and characteristics of the materials used in weaving, linen baskets are distinguished, made:

  • From plastic. They are distinguished by low cost, sufficiently high strength and universal availability.
  • From the vine. Practicality and aesthetics are the main characteristics of containers woven from willow or vine.
  • From birch. Not too common species, with aesthetics and utility, which easily competes with other popular varieties.
  • From wood tapes, represented by shingles, splinter and wood chips. Attractive, but quite complex in terms of the manufacturing principle, the models are distinguished by rather rough and rustic forms.

It should be noted that baskets woven from willow vines are characterized by the greatest coverage in terms of shape, dimensions and utilitarian use. Therefore, it is these products that are most often made by hand.

Plastic wicker baskets are strong and durable, and the wide range of colors of this material makes it easy to choose the right option. However, it is natural wood that gives the product a special charm and incredible appeal.

DIY wicker laundry basket

Craftsmen make baskets by stitching, gluing and even knitting, but wicker linen boxes are especially stylish, durable and practical.

The main material and working tool for the manufacture of an interior item are represented by the following necessary materials:

  • bars D-0.7 cm and a quarter of a meter long, for weaving a bottom cross - 8 pieces;
  • bars providing wall rigidity, D-0.7 cm and a quarter meter long - 15 pieces;
  • meter bars for braiding D-0.5 cm - 25 pieces;
  • garden secateurs;
  • an awl and a sharp knife;
  • pliers and round nose pliers;
  • rope or elastic band for pulling;
  • fixing load.

Recently, wicker weaving workshops have become available, where you can also master the technique of making a basket with handles, a lid and decorative elements.

Baskets made of wood strips tend to lose their aesthetics quite quickly, and are also very difficult to manufacture and prepare the working material. Therefore, the best option would be weaving a linen basket from a vine.

Weaving technology

The main stages of self-weaving the bottom of the linen basket from the vine are as follows:

  • a three-centimeter cut is made in the central part of the four bars;
  • four bars are installed in the resulting cut;
  • the bottom base is braided using the "Rope" technique in two rows;
  • the elements of the cross are divided in pairs, after which weaving continues;
  • at the final stage, the excess tips of the vine are cut off.

Two small wicker laundry baskets in the interior of the bathroom

Rules for weaving the walls of a laundry basket from a vine:

  • fixing fifteen racks on the bottom of the basket;
  • bending the installed racks at a right angle;
  • tightening the upper rack part with ropes or elastic bands;
  • braiding the area between the bottom part and the walls "in three bars";
  • install three rods in the bottom part near successive racks;
  • go around a pair of racks to the right with the left extreme bar;
  • bring the twig inside behind the third post with the element brought out near the fourth post;
  • weaving all subsequent bars according to the algorithm described above.

The total number of rows varies depending on the intended height of the laundry basket being made. At the final stage, the remaining length of the rack bars is cut off, and the elements of the braiding type are masked inside the already finished product.

For ease of use of the laundry basket, it is necessary to weave a handle and a lid, the dimensions of which are selected individually for each specific product.

Price

The average cost of a shopping basket varies depending on the size, material and model features:

  • round rattan model with an inner cover - from 1100-1200 rubles;
  • a rectangular basket-box measuring 38x28x46 cm, without a lid - from 2400 rubles;
  • rattan linen rack basket - from 2600-2700 rubles;
  • semicircular basket - from 3500-3600 rubles;
  • laundry basket with two compartments - from 3600-3800 rubles;
  • square with a lid "Wenge-rattan" - from 4500-4600 rubles;
  • a rectangular laundry basket with a lid-seat - from 4800 rubles;
  • an oval laundry basket with a lid-seat - from 4800-4900 rubles;
  • high and narrow linen basket "Whole Rod" - from 6500-6600 rubles.

High-quality linen baskets woven from rattan, wicker or water hyacinth, as a rule, are covered with a protective layer of moisture-resistant varnish, which reliably protects the finished product and contents from moisture.

If you're having a hard time finding a laundry basket that matches your bathroom's height and volume, try making your own. Such a basket can be used not only for laundry, but also for storing clothes, toys, textiles, any large and small things. Let washing become a little more pleasant!

For a basket 55 cm high and 31 cm in diameter you will need:

  • metal mesh - 110 cm;
  • gray linen or burlap (length) - 102 cm + 34 cm for the cover;
  • light linen (length) - 102 cm + 34 cm for the cover;
  • cardboard 32 x 32 cm;
  • sewing machine;
  • thread and needle;
  • wire cutters;
  • wire;
  • pliers;
  • scissors;
  • tailor's needles;
  • simple pencil;
  • construction gloves for hand protection.

Elapsed time: 1 h 20 min.

Step 1

Using wire cutters, we prepare a piece of metal mesh of the desired size. The mesh will be the base of our laundry basket. To protect your hands from sharp elements, at this stage it is better to wear thick construction gloves. The mesh is stored in a roll and will itself take the correct round shape.

Step 2

We connect the edges of the grid. To do this, you need to form an overlap in 2-3 cells and twist them with wire. At this stage, pliers may come in handy.

Step 3

We start sewing a cover for the outer part of the basket. I used a 62 x 102 cm piece of coarse taupe linen. We fold it along the front sides inward and grind it on a typewriter. You can work the edge of the seam and the top of the workpiece with a zigzag so that the fabric does not crumble.

From fabric of the same color, cut out a circle with a diameter of 32 cm.

We fold the edge of the circle and the blank from the fabric with the right sides to each other and grind it on a typewriter.

It turns out a cover that can be easily put on the grid. The top edge must be folded into the basket.

Step 4

We cut out a cut of 65 x 102 cm from light linen. We repeat all the same steps as with gray linen. We place the finished cover in the laundry basket inside out. Since the light cover is taller, there is enough fabric left to wrap it around the outside of the basket. You can use cotton lace, pom-poms or braid as an edge decor.

Step 5

Now let's start making the cover. Its base can be made of cardboard, thin plastic or a dense substrate for laminate. We cut out a circle with a diameter of 32 cm. We prepare 2 circles of white fabric, equal in diameter to a cardboard blank, plus 2 cm for allowances.

We cut out a strip of 25 x 10 cm from a light fabric, from which we will sew a handle for the lid. We fold across the front side inward, grind on a typewriter, turn inside out and iron.

We bend the workpiece, as shown in the photo, and steam it with an iron.

Baskets for dirty laundry are akin to a gray cardinal: they perform a seemingly simple but important mission - to make sure that laundry is hidden from prying eyes in plain sight. Therefore, the basket not just a container, but also a decoration of the bathroom. There are a great many of them, and in this article I will try to sort everything out so that you easier to navigate when choosing and buy it with peace of mind. Well, for those who like to do everything with their own hands, so that it is original and not like everyone else - there is a separate section 😉)

First, let's look at the general features. It doesn't matter if you buy or make your own - there are characteristics that every self-respecting laundry container should have. Otherwise, she will become not an assistant, but a headache. To avoid this, follow these simple guidelines:

We choose wisely and wisely.

And now let's move on to the “practical part” and find out which exist ..

Types of baskets for dirty laundry. The materials from which they are made.

Various plastics.

Plastic is everywhere now. As a rule, there is nothing special about it: simple design, monophonic coloring, uncomplicated form.

True, manufacturers are trying to add zest to plastic products, imitating weaving or carving, which makes them (baskets) somewhat prettier.

BUT corner models fit even in the smallest bathroom, saving space.

Sometimes you can even meet something pretty stylish)

Of note cheapness and availability (simple models), as well as lightness in weight and washing, which is very practical. In addition, if you need a bright basket, then the choice of colors in plastic is very large.
Obvious - a design that rarely fits into any stylized bathroom interior because of the "cheap" look.
Solution: hide the basket in the pantry, closet, cabinet or look for more expensive and beautiful models.

Lightweight nylon baskets

Looks like plastic in every way. Usually this compact grids on a flexible frame. You can even machine wash it if you want.

the same as for plastic.

Cozy wooden laundry baskets.

One of the cutest choices. Will serve faithfully long years(and maybe even your kids). Wooden baskets look great in the interior of almost any style and style. pleasing to the eye"natural" look.

Material environmentally friendly and durable but also absorbs moisture well. And if in the case of plastic models you don’t have to worry about this, then the tree must be processed. Most often, they are first impregnated with antifungal compounds, and then coated with varnish or paint, protecting wood from moisture. This creates protection against decay, destruction, loss of an attractive appearance. Therefore, do not buy baskets from "clean", unvarnished or painted wood, unless you intend to do it yourself later.

Particularly good pouffe baskets with seats. It is very comfortable.

cosiness who appears in the bathroom with the new "tenant", durability.
only one - baskets are not cheap, which is understandable. But it's worth it)

Lovely braids.

The material is vine, rattan, bamboo, seaweed, rope and even straw. According to the properties created by the feeling of comfort, wicker baskets for dirty laundry are similar to wooden ones. But if wooden baskets fit almost any interior, then wickerwork is more for lovers of eco style, since, say, they will not fit into “modern” or “hi-tech” (or with a scratch). Due to the high humidity, such things too must be protected from moisture special impregnations, varnishes or paints.

They are like models classical usually oval.

that's enough interesting shape or weave.

I like these wicker storage boxes the most. You can sit on them if the lid is strong enough.

Cart handles are always useful.

Standing apart is such a basket, woven from cloth tape.

environmental friendliness, elegant appearance, the flexibility of the material makes it possible to produce many different shapes.
only one. If the material is not of high quality, then it will soon begin to “furry”, crumble, delaminate or even break. When buying, pay special attention to the "dryness" and flexibility of the material.. This is determined by the "eye", touch, pressing. If the basket starts to crumble already at the inspection stage ... well, you understand)

Stylish metal models.

Metal is a great choice for style bathrooms minimalism, hi-tech, loft or fusion.
Solid sheet baskets are quite heavy, so choose mobile models on casters.
There are wire baskets. Large ones made of thick rods are just as clumsy and require either wheels or set-and-forget approach.

Thin and light options nonetheless should be strong and not bendable.

metal basins in Provence style take their rightful place in the corresponding interior.

Simple "iron" options are on sale, as well as in colors of gold, silver, bronze and other shades of the "metallized" palette.

Important note: Metal from which the box is made, must be stainless if you don't want to then .

obvious: durability, reliability, withstand large volumes of laundry if you have a big family.
again, this is not the cheapest and most affordable option. Some chrome one-piece baskets look like urns which is not aesthetically pleasing for everyone.

Soft laundry baskets.

Textile and knitted baskets at once make the bathroom feel like home and I don't want to leave.) empty pouches easy to put away in a drawer until the next batch of dirty laundry. Even underwear they take up little space.

Incidentally, they are often used as an insert for metal baskets so that they do not look so strict. In wicker and wooden baskets, this is also not uncommon.

Manufacturers often use cardboard inserts to keep the bags in shape. If the inserts are not removable, this will create inconvenience in the future when you want to wash the basket.
Soft baskets absorb moisture, so require periodic washing and thorough drying. Although I would not call this a minus, because it can be thrown into the washing machine along with the same linen) If it has inserts, then the basket should be periodically placed on the balcony to be ventilated to avoid unpleasant odors. And better do not buy what requires washing, but it is impossible to do this.
Soft material is great for folding baskets on a wooden or metal frame.

Don't forget the strength rule. Thin material will quickly become unusable - you have to buy a new one. Choose baskets made of thick fabric.
as many color options as there are fabrics in the world) Very comfortable, perfect for any interior bathroom.
without frame unstable, for a large family, one will not be enough, because. they are not very spacious.

Leather luxury.

The skin always looks good. And here again I make a reservation - which, in terms of properties, is not inferior to natural raw materials, and sometimes surpasses it. And wherein saves the lives of animals, which is important for any humane person.

Eco leather breathable, easy to clean, light weight. As a rule, it is used as a casing on a wooden or metal frame.
noble appearance, variety of colors, durability.
not cheap not sold everywhere, but online stores are our everything)

First step behind: certainty appeared with the material. Now decide how best to position the basket. In this case, we have an overview of what are ...

Types of laundry basket installations

floor standing

The most common option. Buy, bring, install, use.

Retractable baskets built into the cabinet.

When there is not enough space in the bathroom, but there are already cabinets or you plan to order furniture for the bathroom, make such a convenient solution - baskets in the closet.

With such models, an important role is played by the ability to remove the cover if it is soft (for washing) or the ability to wash the basket without problems if it is built in.

This, of course, is not entirely built-in ... but we also rank it among those.

Folding laundry baskets

Location under the sink is one of the most practical. This trick can be done even in the smallest bathroom.

Baskets on shelves

This luxury is available only to those who has enough space in the bathroom. This is the main disadvantage. Otherwise, if you choose cute baskets, it will look stylish.

Hanging basket models.

Let's play here) After all, baskets can also be hung on the door handle ...

hang on the door further saving space...

... on the wall with one hook ...

...or take hanger with hooks for clothes and hang several at once.

And one roll-out model for a snack) This one is easily hidden under any shelf or countertop.

How convenient is it to sort dirty laundry?

If you have a large family or don’t feel like digging through the basket every time, dividing the linen into white, dark, colored, children’s, etc., then it’s worth sort immediately as soon as you brought it to the bathroom. Baskets for dirty laundry will help with this. with separator or just separate for each type.

For the next two options, you will need laundry. But, as a rule, such large families live in private houses, so there should be no problems with the place.

After such a detailed analysis, I propose to take a break ☕ and just admire, what creative designers came up with on this topic.

The most unusual laundry baskets.

Well, I don’t like simple forms, I want some kind of zest. So here's a handful for you)
Let's start with the wicker hungry whale. The flexibility of the vine and skillful hands give rise to beautiful models.

Unforgettable hook: knitted laundry baskets can be square, round or triangular - it doesn't matter, because nothing compares to the comfort of yarn. Take a thick and dense thread so that the model keeps its shape. It must be synthetic so that the basket does not “sit down” when washed. Don't forget the pens

Let's move on to more complex models. Although the frames are quite simple, can't do without a man.

P.S. The network has master classes in which they teach how to make linen baskets from cardboard boxes and newspaper tubes. remember, that cardboard boxes are not very reliable material and it can only be used as a temporary solution. And weaving from tubes so that it does not look vulgar is not given to everyone.

Baby laundry baskets

I decided to put these baskets in a separate list, because they fit everywhere) They are bright, non-trivial, you can sew them yourself, and indeed children are all the cutest and sweetest 😍.

It was pretty a large overview of all possible parameters of the baskets for storing dirty laundry and even a little (Convenient storage in the bathroom: we use the walls to the fullest! How to store cosmetics - ways for every taste and budget. How to store toothbrushes so as not to harm your health

To maintain a certain style of the room, it is necessary to pay attention to even minor details. An outstanding element of the interior can destroy the whole composition.

Not everyone is ready to fork out for designer products, so some resort to an alternative solution - to independently create simple additions to the decoration of their apartment.

For example, you can profitably beat the laundry basket at the cost of insignificant efforts. All you need is patience and materials that are inexpensive and readily available.

Article content:

paper basket

Before you get started, you will need:

  • Wrapping paper, brown. If it is not possible to purchase one, then you can use wallpapers with similar characteristics;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue for paper;
  • sewing machine;
  • Threads and staples.

The painstaking manufacture of the basket will take a decent amount of time, so it is better to ask the household for help.

Another budget option

Here, as in the previous method, only common and accessible components will be required:

  • An ordinary plastic laundry basket that meets the needs of your family in terms of capacity;
  • Cotton rope with a thickness of 5 millimeters or more (in order to diversify the design of the product, you can take ropes of various colors);
  • Hot glue gun.

Now let's look at the procedure:

  1. It is best to start gluing the tourniquet along the top of the plastic container, spiraling down. At the same time, you should not spare efforts to properly press the connected elements. If the rope comes off, you will have to redo everything from scratch.
  2. Keep in mind that it is not so much the cord and the surface of the basket that need to be pressed, but the adjacent rings. This is especially true for the first turns of the spiral. By alternating the colors of its segments, you can achieve an original and attractive look of the basket.
  3. Having reached the base of the container, you should, without interruption, go to its bottom and continue to curl the cord until you reach the center.
    The finishing touch will be the edging along the top edge of the basket. You can decorate it by means of a fabric or other kind of strip with a width of 3 to 5 centimeters.
    Having carried out the above, you need to wait a day until the structure is completely dry.

If you have a sewing tool at your disposal and you have the appropriate skills, then you can make an inner cover if you wish.

Any natural tissue material can be used for this. The pattern must be made so that the cover protrudes beyond the edges of the basket and, thanks to this, can be fixed around the perimeter of the outer side.

If you intend to make this accessory, the sequence of actions will change: first you need to provide the tank with a cover and fix it with an elastic band, and after that you can start decorating with a cotton cord.

How to get a rattan basket without breaking the budget?

Rattan products bring comfort to any environment, and their texture evokes pleasant associations with nature and its inherent harmony. Due to the solid cost of production, such furniture is not available to everyone.

However, there is a way not only to create something similar, but to completely imitate the wicker creations that experienced magicians work on.

So, the list of required things includes:

  • Thick cardboard;
  • Pretty paper for finishing the bottom, better resistant to moisture;
  • Some amount of waste paper;
  • PVA glue;
  • Transparent spray varnish on a quick-drying basis;
  • Narrow long needle;
  • Stain to give the desired color.

Deciding to start a meditation session, follow the recommendations below:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to make an impromptu "vine", an excellent replacement for which will be refined newspaper rods. After cutting the printed matter into strips of 7 cm thickness, you should carefully twist each one on the spoke. The procedure is accompanied by smearing the workpieces with glue. When the bonding base hardens, you need to repeat this with another tape. To speed up the process, it would be wise to use several knitting needles. In order to avoid unnecessary waste of effort, you can limit yourself to a relatively small batch, and then, having calculated the missing number of links, replenish stocks.
  2. Having received a decent number of rods, we proceed to stain them with a stain. This liquid will give nondescript newspaper tubes a woody texture.
  3. Next, we cut out two identical rectangular blanks 20 by 35 centimeters from compacted cardboard, and 2 identical rectangles from finishing paper. Combining these parts in pairs, we get the base of the bottom, strong enough and beautiful.
  4. Taking one of the prepared cardboard plates, we glue the rods to its unfinished side, distributing them with an interval of 2 centimeters. The length of each "vine" should provide a small margin for allowances.
  5. Having completed the placement of the tubes around the perimeter of one of the bottom blanks, you need to cover the resulting craft with another cardboard rectangle so that the purl planes look at each other. To avoid moving the rods, they should be fixed in some way before the glue dries, for example, with clothespins.
  6. Then we form the bases for the edges of the linen tank, that is, we bend the branches up to a position perpendicular to the bottom. It is better to use a tube support. It will be prudent to choose a box that matches the size of the future basket.
  7. Armed with the “pigtail-rope” technique, we begin to weave. Its essence lies in the fact that a pair of unidirectional twigs curl into a spiral, which captures vertical support posts into its knots. To combine the tubes into continuous rings, insert their ends into each other, and fix the joints with glue. For a change, you can alternate the rods of woody and lighter shades.
  8. Repeating the described manipulations, you will come to the desired result. If you want to equip the container with handles, then just pull a few adjacent braids to the sides. We cut the racks.
  9. The final touch will be the application of varnish on the surface of the resulting product. When the substance seizes, you can consider yourself the proud owner of a basket that is practically indistinguishable from the rattan analogue of the basket.

If you have prepared a case, then it's time to put it in your creation.

Compact laundry tank

When there is an acute shortage of space in the bathroom, you can choose the solution that is discussed in this section.

So the idea is to fit the drawer into the space under the narrow edge of the tub. This cavity has a triangular outline, but this cannot stop us. After all, it will not be difficult to give a suitable shape to the future basket.

The first step is to create a box under the bathroom. We carry out measurements to select the exact parameters, and it is most convenient to use drywall as the material. The capacity of the box and the laundry tank itself depends on the conscientiousness of the measurements.

The connecting profiles of the frame are located outside. To get the most out of this venture, you can sheathe other sides of the bathroom with drywall in one go. Without taking off your gloves, you can also do the facing of the completed wall with the help of tiles.

Or stay tuned

The bathroom is, undoubtedly, the face of the hostess, so everything in it should be not only neat and clean, but also beautiful. Sometimes it can be difficult to choose a laundry basket so that it matches the overall design of the room, so that things do not peek out of the holes, so that, finally, the basket pleases the eye. The ideal solution to this problem would be a do-it-yourself laundry basket created. The result of such a creative process will be not only a useful thing, but also all the positive emotions that its use will bring.

Braid from newspapers

If collections of newspapers have accumulated at home over a long period, then you can give them a second life by making a basket of newspaper tubes.

So, to make a basket from a newspaper, you will need:

  • a stack of newspapers;
  • the object to be braided;
  • ruler;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • thin needle;
  • PVA glue.

To make a wicker basket, you need to prepare newspaper tubes. On a newspaper sheet, mark strips 7 cm wide and cut them out.

Then you need to place a thin knitting needle on the edge of the strip at an angle of 30Âș and wrap it in newspaper.

The tube should not be too tight or weak. The end of the strip must be fixed with glue.

After the end of the tube is fixed, the needle should be removed. Then repeat the same with the other strips.

Finally, to make long parts, you need to connect the tubes in two, inserting one into the other and glue the junction, as shown in the photo.

Now it's time to weave the bottom of the basket out of newspaper tubes. To do this, you need to take 10 finished parts, put 5 of them in front of you, press with a ruler. Then bend 3 odd tubes up along the ruler, drip glue on the remaining elements. Take 6 tubes and glue it perpendicularly to them from above. After that, you need to lower the raised tubes, do the same, but lifting up the even parts, and glue the 7 tube to the odd ones.

Related article: Knitting from scraps of fabric

Continue weaving until the 10th tube is glued. Then you need to take the upper horizontal tube, bend it 90Âș and pass it between the rest of the parts, as in the photo.

Continue to weave in a circle, pushing the details away from the center. When a circle of the desired diameter is formed, bend the ends of the tubes up.

Now you can put a shape on the bottom of the future basket - it can be any thing of a suitable size, it is on it that the basket will trail.

The bent ends of the tubes from which the bottom was woven should fit snugly into the mold. Now the main part of the work lies ahead: making the walls of the basket! To do this, take the tube and twist it perpendicular to the rest of the details. The end of the tube should be fixed with glue, and then take a new part and continue.

When the desired height of the basket is reached, you need to fix the ends. To do this, you need to twist any axial tube through the adjacent one, bending it inward. Insert a separate tube into the loop. In this way, bend all the ends inward. Trim excess.

Finally, for strength, you can coat the entire product with glue, and then varnish it on top.

On a note! Making a laundry basket opens up endless possibilities for experimentation. For example, you can pre-coat newspaper tubes with acrylic paint and weave a multi-colored basket.

The second life of lids

How to surprise guests and at the same time give a second life to plastic bottle caps? Create a modern laundry basket for the bathroom made from lids! In addition to patience, you will need:

  • many covers;
  • plastic glue.

First you need to assemble the bottom of the future basket: lay out the lids in the shape of a circle or square, depending on what shape the product will be.

Then, when the bottom is laid out, you need to tightly glue the covers to each other with plastic glue.
